Maria Robinson Presente!

Long time TFA board member Maria Robinson passed away on February 11, 2026. The email below from Karen Spring describes how she died with her adopted Honduran family.

Those who are interested can see the 2022 TFA post about Maria and her move to Honduras by searching on her name.

Dear TFA board members,

With a lot of sadness, I write to inform you that Maria Robinson passed away in La Unión, Honduras yesterday evening around 9:45 pm local time. In the care of her adopted Honduran family, Rigo Matute and Delmy Castellanos and their two children, Maria took her last breathe after her health had been deteriorating over several months, particularly the last few weeks. Her adopted family, neighbourhood, and the town of La Unión are preparing for her wake and burial which will likely happen today (Thursday).

After feeling so committed and attached to La Unión and Honduras more broadly, Maria made the decision in 2022 to move to Honduras to live with Rigo, Delmy and family. Over the past 12 or so years, Maria had developed a strong relationship with Rigo and the many associates of the local coffee cooperative based in La Unión, that formed, became official, and grew under her advisement and support. Maria was also an active supporter and member of the Honduras Solidarity Network (HSN) and Task Force on the Americas and did everything she could to be in solidarity with the Honduran people. She will be deeply missed.

Given her health condition and the financial status of her adopted family, I am asking anyone that is able to please send any support to help cover the costs of her burial and her pending medical bills. Any donations will be sent directly to Rigo and Delmy.

Thank you, and please light a candle for Maria today and remember her compañerismo, her energy and life,

Karen
