Sue Severin Presente!

Sue Severin was a model militant and an inspiration. She was a longtime board member of the Task Force on the Americas and passed at the age of 83 on November 17, 2020.

She was at times a scholar, an activist, an educator, a devoted mother, a political campaign manager, a dedicated walker and talker, and a ruthless recycler. International election observation was her political passion and specialty. When East Timor gained its independence, she was summoned to help them set up their electoral system. To describe her as spirited in the causes of the oppressed would be an understatement.

Sue Severin lived life to the fullest. A woman ahead of her time, she challenged the times to catch up to her. Above all, Sue Severin was a tireless champion of social justice. Yes, she worked for the CIA in her early years in Paris. And later she managed the Harbin Hot Springs where she proudly proclaimed that she didn’t wear much in the way of clothes for a good part of a year. But that was before we met her on the TFA board. Sue led by example and exemplified the proud tradition of the Task Force. She was dedicated to her son Ezra, as he was to her.
